Winter 2012 (8): Shenzhen Zoo

Since we’ve been to Europe, we decided to skip the “Europe imitation” OCT attraction and went to the zoo instead.  As the holidays had just finished, a LOT of areas were put under renovation so we missed the pandas and the orangutans and a lot of other stuffs.  The zoo was pretty empty on a weekday.  I realize I’m really not much of an animal person.  The birds, giraffe and elephant were the cutest!  They were all obviously well-fed too! The lions were in a semi-open area (you walk through an overhead bridge that’s incased in plexiglas), that way have more space to walk about in some nature.  It would be nicer if it was like a vast open land for them to run.

Beautiful peahen

Never seen sooo many peacocks all in one place. Beautiful. We saw the peacocks opening out their wings, it was sooo elegant, and the whole wings when spread out shakes like a vibration as it opens.  THey were in an open cage (no ceiling), so actually free to leave.

This peacock (above) was wooing a peahen!!! The peahen is standing in front of it (outside the photo), and when the peahen turned to another direction it would back off and then try another direction to approach the peahen!  Lovely!

For some reason, the animal show seemed kinda sad or forlorn.

Left: the tofu was nice and soft, but the best nyong tofu is still mom’s….miss that.
Right: very teeny tiny shrimps deep fried – you eat the whole thing, kinda like fresh shrimp chips!
